Solmar Consulting and Korkia have started a solar energy development project in Loviisa, Finland.  The solar power park is being planned to the Kuninkaankylä Musa area in Loviisa. The total capacity of the solar power park will be 65–75 MWp of emission-free electricity, equivalent to the annual consumption of around 3200–3500 electrically heated detached houses.

The planned land area for the solar power park is just over 100 hectares. The environmental, stormwater, and soil surveys required for the construction permit will be conducted in summer 2024, and the preparation of the construction permit application will begin in the autumn. The construction schedule for the solar power park will be specified as the project progresses.

The project has been in preparation since autumn 2023, together with landowners. Preliminary studies have shown that the conditions are good to start the actual planning and permitting. Land lease agreements have been signed with the landowners on 12 February 2024. The project has been presented to the City of Loviisa management and the conditions for connecting the planned solar farm to the grid have been clarified with the local electricity grid company.

“Since summer 2023, we have been collaborating with the landowners and grid company to thoroughly assess which areas are suitable for the planned solar power park and how to best consider the environmental and other local perspectives. We have discussed matters in good cooperation, which provides excellent conditions to advance the project to implementation," says Peter Tuominen, responsible for technical project development in Solmar Consulting.

A solar power park can attract new business to the municipality

”The Musa solar power park is a significant project for the city in terms of developing renewable energy and the green transition, which strengthens our development towards becoming a diverse energy cluster city," says Mayor of Loviisa, Jan D. Oker-Blom.

“We contribute to creating sustainable energy production together with our partner Korkia," says Solmar Consulting’s Managing Director Jari Marttinen. "Solar power park projects also create new opportunities for municipalities as businesses seek out renewable energy sources. Additionally, the implementation and operation of a solar power park create new opportunities for local businesses. Our goal is for the project is to bring added value to landowners, local businesses, and the municipality.”

“The area's high solar irradiance level and favorable foundation conditions, as well as the proximity to grid connection, create conditions for a competitive solar power plant investment. The project fits excellently into our growing portfolio of solar energy projects in Finland." says Matti Manner, Korkia’s Director of Solar Energy Project Development in Finland.
