Solmar Consulting and Korkia start solar power project planning in Savitaipale, Finland – Local forest management association also involved in the preparation

In December 2022, Solmar Consulting and Korkia announced collaboration in the development of solar energy in Finland. Now one of the collaboration projects, the Savitaipale solar power park, is starting. The surveys required for permitting will be conducted in the area during this summer.
The solar power park is planned for the Petynmäki and Selkäkangas areas in Savitaipale. The estimated annual production is approximately 65 MW, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 3200 detached houses. The project is also significant for the municipality in terms of developing renewable energy and the green transition.
The project will continue this summer, as the studies required for permitting, such as environmental, stormwater and soil surveys, will be carried out in the area. After this, the construction permit process will begin. The completion date of the solar park will be specified as the project progresses.
Renewable energy can attract new business to the municipality
The Savitaipale solar power park project has been prepared since autumn 2022 together with landowners, the municipality and the Mänty-Saimaa Forest Management Association.
- We have negotiated openly with all landowners since the beginning of the project, and we have also had the opportunity to utilize the local forest management association as a negotiating partner in land lease agreements. As a result, an exceptionally strong trust has been built between the various parties, and the preparatory work for the project has been carried out very thoroughly, rejoices Lauri Solin, responsible for project development in Solmar Consulting.
The aim of the project is to also bring new opportunities and livelihoods to the area, such as additional investments and new business. Typically, businesses tend to locate near renewable energy sources.
- With Solmar Consulting, we have agreed on a total of one gigawatt of solar energy development in Finland. The importance of the Savitaipale solar power project will be particularly highlighted during the summer seasons when wind power production in our country is lower. Also, there is generally less wind power in Southeastern Finland, says Matti Manner, Korkia’s Director of Solar Energy Project Development in Finland.
